Millie Dunn Veasey DAV Chapter 100

Fundraiser Purpose: Access to transportation remains a critical challenge for many low to moderate income veterans residing in Orange County, North Carolina. A pervasive issue among these low-income veterans is a lack of reliable personal transportation. This barrier frequently leads to missed healthcare appointments, delayed treatments, and adverse health outcomes. North Carolina ranks 5th in the nation for veteran population, with 620,969 veterans making up 7.50% of the state’s adult civilian population. Among these veterans, approximately 7.10% live below the poverty line, compared to 12.00% of nonveterans. Applying this percentage to the veteran population in Orange County suggests that about 414 veterans may be struggling with low income.

To address this pressing need, the “Freedom to Travel” initiative has been developed by our Chapter to ensure that veterans in Orange County, NC can access healthcare services without the added stress of transportation difficulties. This initiative proposes to provide a solution using dedicated DAV transportation vans with volunteer drivers to bridge the transportation gap for our veterans. This will ensure that our veterans, who have served our country with honor, have reliable and accessible transportation to receive the medical care they deserve.

Your participation and contributions will directly impact the well-being of our local veterans, making a meaningful difference in their lives.

Fundraising Goal: $1,500
